This architecture / urban design studio deals with the interface between the symbolic and physical structure of postwar Dahiyeh to derive selective strategies of enhancement/(de)dramatization; passivity/resistance; chaos/coherence; segregation/fusion; concentration/diffusion; emptiness/congestion…. The perceptual elements of Dahiyeh in the minds of its inhabitants will be identified and qualified to create a web for tentative design interventions whose role is more to question than to resolve, to bring forward dualities and emphasize prevalent contradictions. Design here is perceived as a radical self-questioning process, as opposed to a problem-solving activity. The designer takes the role of an instigator whose choice is either to join into a prevalent "culture of resistance", to "resist" it, or to ignore it…to channel collective mental energy or to counteract collective dreams, to embrace community perspective or to advocate his/her own vision and view.
