This elective course proposes a challenge to this understanding of representation. It therefore approaches texts written at the limit of representation when the pressing onslaught of a here and now precludes any access to the promontories of reflective and contemplative thought. It also proposes a close reading of texts written after the event, when a catastrophe has already occurred but can only later be experienced as contemporaneous.
