Field Trips 2003-2004
Field trips were organized by department faculty with
the objective of exposing students to the real life and
practical civil engineering world. Visits to projects,
offices, and plants (listed below) were also aimed at
enhancing students’ learning in relevant courses.
Beirut Central District (BCD) Reconstruction -

Course/Class: CIVE 200 (Perspectives in Civil
Engineering)/CE 2007 (1st year students)
Dates: March 25 and April 1, 2004 (2 groups)
Aim: To expose students to one of the most significant
development projects. Visit covered presentation on the
project, construction sites, rehabilitation and historic
preservation, Normandy dump site and recycling plant,
breakwater and marina, and infrastructure overview.

and computer and IT.

Aim: To Expose students to the Litani dam and
hydro-electric power plant, and to the water resources
and irrigation development in the area.

(3rd year students)
Date: April 30, 2004
Aim: To expose students to site construction,
supervision, and safety. Phasing of project and construction
details, with particular emphasis on reinforced and prestressed
concrete structural elements and systems, were explained
and discussed with project manager and site engineers.
