Projects
What follows is a list of projects that were completed
under this course. Some have links to websites that
cover the projects in more detail. Executables and
sample files are also available for download.
ActiveXO
An innovative development of the conventional X/O
game, otherwise known as 'Tic-Tac-Toe'. It has been
named accordingly after Microsoft's revolutionary
'ActiveX' technology, without which this simple educational
product could not have been realized in this way.

ActiveSEEP
This is an AutoCAD 2002 port for 2-D groundwater seepage
modeling powered by LISA;sfinite element analysis
engine. It is meant to provide a highly flexible CAD
environment for the user to define his seepage problem
and the corresponding finite element grid/mesh. It
has been named accordingly after Microsoft's revolutionary
'ActiveX' technology, without which this simple educational
product could not have been realized in this way.

AutoLabs DBMS
This is a database management system for automating
administrative and experimental tasks at the three
major civil and environmental engineering laboratories
at AUB. It consists of a core Database Application
through which internal users and lab operators manage
the database, and a web outlet for lab customers to
place orders, retrieve results, and manage their personal
profiles.

Click here to visit the Civil and Environmental Engineering
[CEE] laboratories website at the American University
of Beirut [AUB].
UniRide
This is a database system that attempts to arrange
carpools among student online. A database server keeps
track of registered drivers and passengers, who in
turn can login to the UniRide website to find matching
drivers and/or passengers.

EZHighway
Visual Basic Application in AutoCAD tool for the design
of highways. The files are to be loaded from within
AutoCAD (VBA), and an example is included. Note: the
user should have Microsoft Excel in order to use the
software.

Shorty 2000: A
Short Column Design Tool
The software presented for this project is a small
application of CAD with a basic interface on MS Excel,
and a link to AutoCAD. It deals specifically with
the problem of designing columns subject to any loading
condition (Axial load with uniaxial or biaxial bending)
using the approximate Bresler method.

Design of Beams Under
Torsion: D-BUT
“Design of Beams Under Torsion” or “D-BUT”
is a simple application developed for the “Computer
Methods in Civil Engineering” course, CVEV 118.
“D-BUT” analyses and designs edge beams
in one-way slabs. It integrates the use of three computer
programs, AutoCAD, VBA (Visual Basic for Applications),
and Microsoft Excel for the user input and output
of the problem.

DB-OFFICE-2-ACAD
DB-OFFICE-2-ACAD, our project for Unit C, is a simple
program to store information and link it to an AutoCAD
drawing. The program is basically a database that
stores information of the content of the offices of
the engineering faculty members at AUB. DB-OFFICE-2-ACAD
was programmed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, and
interacts with Microsoft Access and any Window version
of AutoCAD (Release 13 & above). DB-OFFICE-2-ACAD
is user-friendly software, which can be used by any
computer literate person.

The snake game
The game of snake is an extremely popular pastime.
It is found on most cellular phones, and on many video
game consoles. A very common sight in Lebanon, are
people holding there cell phones and killing time
by playing this popular game. It is this great success
of the game that prompted the development of a personal
computer version, and programmed using visual basic.
The project encompasses the development of the game
snake. It can be installed on any a personal computer.
