Awards 2006-2007
The following awards were presented to CEE students for
outstanding achievement and performance.
Penrose Award
Final year Civil Engineering student Gustave Cordahi was
honored with the Penrose Award which is made on the basis
of the best combination of scholarship, character, leadership
and contribution to the University as a whole. One such
award is given per Faculty each year at AUB. Gustave was
also recognized as one of four AUB students with “distinguished
profiles” in the March 2007 tour of Presidents of
American Universities in the Middle East.
Best CEE Paper Award – 6th FEA Student
Conference
The objective of this award is to recognize the best paper
presented by CEE undergraduate students at the 6th FEA
Student Conference.
Recipients: Jad Abi Ghosn, Ayoub-Mark Aoun, Ragi Edde
and Serge Eid
Paper: Formula 1 Circuit in Beirut
Best Poster Award – 6th FEA Student Conference
The objective of this award is to recognize the best poster
presented by FEA undergraduate students at the 6th FEA
Student Conference.
Recipients: Zeina Abi Jaoude, Elias Bachir, and Ali Mourtada

Terminal
Dean’s Award for Creative Achievement
The objective of this award is to recognize undergraduate
students who have demonstrated creativity in their approach
to academic work as applied to projects, problem solving,
laboratory and shop work, etc.
Recipient: Nazem El Khoury, George Kai, Charbel Moubarak,
and Bader Zein
Project: Aerodynamic and Energy-Generating Skyscraper
Participation in ADIPEC Education Day
Two 4th year CEE students, Carla Huijer and Serge Eid,
were nominated and selected, among six students at AUB,
to attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition
& Conference (ADIPEC) Education Day which was held
on 4th November 2006 for selected final year Geoscience
and Engineering students from institutes across Africa,
the Middle East, India and Pakistan. The Education Day
was designed a complete learning experience for the students.
Students learned soft skills and were assigned group projects
related to energy and petroleum. Students also participated
in field trips and attended the ADIPEC conference and
exhibition (Carla did not attend due to personal circumstances).
