Objective
This
award is intended to recognize a faculty member who has spent most of his/her
academic career at the FEA and who has contributed with distinction and
excellence to the FEA over a substantial period of time.
This
award is a high honor that a faculty member can achieve from the FEA only while
still actively employed. The Emeritus status applies to faculty members
who have retired.

award:
1. The individual must hold the rank of professor in the Faculty and
be in a non-administrative position at the time of the award.

The individual must have served in the Faculty for at least twenty years and be
active in teaching, research, and service at the time of the award.
3.
The individual must be recognized within FEA for significant contributions to
research, teaching, and service. Such contributions should have taken place
over a substantial period of time and should have had a positive and
significant impact, as described below.
-
The
individual shall be recognized internationally as having made significant
contributions to his/her area of research or creative work. Such contributions
may include but are not limited to seminal work, peer-reviewed publications,
authorship of books and manuscripts, editorship of prestigious journals,
awards, design projects, exhibitions, and creative work.
-
The

significantly improve existing courses, innovative and effective teaching
methods, up-to-date education design and delivery, and testimonies by previous
students.
-
The
individual shall have an outstanding service record both within the FEA and AUB
and on a regional, national or international level. Service within the FEA and
AUB can include but is not limited to exceptional contribution while a member
of a committee, administrative work, and/or the development of significant new
programs, centers, or research groups. Service outside of AUB can include but
is not limited to lectures in non-academic settings, radio or television
interviews, membership with exceptional contributions to professional groups or
associations, and/or work with government agencies.
4.
The individual receiving the award must have maintained the highest
professional and ethical standards in all areas of his/her work.
Nomination
to the Award
Anyone
within FEA can nominate a candidate for the award, at any time throughout the
year. The nomination shall be in the form of a comprehensive letter that
details why the nominee is deemed to be worthy of the award, based on the award
criteria. The nominator may attach to the nomination letter any material that
substantiates the nomination (letters from other faculty members, letters from
students, and/or letters from individuals outside of the FEA or AUB).
It
is to the advantage of the nominee to have multiple letters of nomination from
faculty members within the department to which the nominee belongs as well as
one or more letter from faculty members outside of the department, within or
outside the FEA.
Award
Committee
The
Dean of the FEA shall form an award committee when s/he receives an award
nomination that is deemed appropriate to merit consideration. Members of the
award committee from the FEA and AUB must be of the professorial rank and
represent the department, the FEA, and AUB outside the FEA. In addition, the
award committee shall include at least one member from outside AUB who is
familiar with the nominee’s research, teaching, or service contributions at the
national, regional, or international level. The dean may chair the committee or
appoint one of its members as chair.
The
nomination letters and supporting material, including the candidate’s CV, shall
comprise the nominee’s file in being considered for the award. The award
committee may solicit additional information or documents or may interview
faculty members, students, or other individuals in considering the nomination.
The committee may also use a variety of other means to determine the
individual’s contributions.
It
is clearly understood that the award will only be granted when there is a
worthy recipient who has made significant contributions to the environment and
reputation of the FEA. Administrative excellence and length of service may not
be used as the sole criteria for granting the award. In general, there should
be substantial evidence that the individual’s professional life has been
characterized by a commitment to activities of significant benefit to the FEA
as opposed to a one-time major involvement in a single activity.
Following
its deliberations, the committee shall vote on the granting of the award to the
nominee. A two-thirds majority shall be required for confirming the
recommendation to grant the award.
Award
Recognition
Award
recipients shall have the designation “Recipient of the Outstanding FEA
Professor Award” beside their names in faculty lists. The individuals shall
also receive a personal award plaque and their names shall be engraved on a
plaque prominently displayed in an FEA building.
