Metal
Machine Shop
Many of machine tools located in this laboratory
are employed year round for instruction in the manufacturing
processes of turning, milling, shaping, and grinding of machine
parts. In addition to the manually operated machines, several
examples of mass production machines and computer-controlled
machines are provided. MECH421 Manufacturing Processes and MECH
522 CAD/CAE/CAM, are taught in this space. When classes are
not in session, students are able to use the facilities under
the supervision of a certified Master Machinist for projects
in ME 520 Mechanical Engineering Design and ME 510 Final Year
Projects.
Wood
Shop
This shop is furnished with wood working
tools that are used by students primarily in the ME 520 Mechanical
Design and ME 510 Final Year Projects. The shop serves also
the course ASST200 Introduction to Engineering. The physical
facility of the shop will be moved into Wing B with a better
controlled dust environment. The woodshop service was evaluated
and kits of hand tools will be obtained for the use of the students.
