Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) in the north west
of England has recently announced the outstanding award of Masters degree with
Distinction to Omar Hamasni of Beirut, Lebanon. He graduated with an MSc in
Project Management in December 2008 and had his degree confirmed at a colourful
ceremony by the University's Chancellor, Sir Christian Bonington, CBE.
Before coming to Lancaster University Omar graduated from the
American University of Beirut with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He has said of his studies at Lancaster:
"The programme demonstrates that effective project management in not based on
the application of technical competence but also on behaviour and team
management skills.
An interesting highlight of the course was the Applied Project
Management module. This was our first engagement with a real project from
initiation to completion. This provided me with insights into the complexity of
issues that can arise during the full project lifecycle whilst exploring was to
deal with uncertainty and how to manage stakeholders."
The Dean of the Management School, Professor Sue Cox, has said:
"We are delighted with Omar's result. This is an excellent
performance and a reward for his hard work. The skills he has developed will be
very much in demand as he progresses through his career. "
Omar now works as a Support Engineer at the Fibrex Industrial
and Construction Group based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In this role
he is responsible for the management, implementation and monitoring of the
various procurement processes.
The Management School at Lancaster is ranked !jthin t he UK for
research in the 2008 RAE assessment and also rated 'Excellent' for teaching. It
has also been accorded EQUlS status through the European Foundation for
Management Development and AACSB accreditation, which confirms LUMS as a top
