Students of Professor Ghanem Oweis in MECH 609 (Experimental Fluid Dynamics), Wafa Karaki, Jack Abboud, Nancy Daher, and M. Hussein Osman, won first place prize in the Young Engineer Paper Contest which was held as part of the ASME-IMECE International Mechanical Engineering Conference and Exhibition in Boston, in November 2008. The paper was entitled "PIV measurements in the wake of a cactus shaped cylinder". The prize included a 500 USD cash award, a 750 USD travel subsidy, and waiving of the conference fees.
