HASSAN A. ARTAIL
I am a Professor and the Founding Director of the Mobile Computing Laboratory in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the American University of Beirut. Before joining AUB at the end of 2001, I worked for 11 years at DaimlerChrysler/Chrysler in Auburn Hills, Michigan, working on designing and building IT systems for vehicle testing.

I am currently engaged in several research projects in the areas listed below, applying their results to real-life applications and educating students.

o Cognitive Networking to reduce contention in vehicular 802.11p DSRC and WAVE communications.

o Intelligent transportation, and applications in public transportation and carpooling.

o  Mobile Clouds and Service Discovery in Wireless Vehicular Networks.

o  Privacy-aware Targeted Mobile Advertising .

o  Data Caching in wireless networks, including consistency, replication, and privacy.

o  Distributed Data Access for Data Intensive Applications, drawing data from Reconfigurable Active disks connected over the Internet.


Available PhD Positions: 

o Next generation wireless networks
oMiddleware and Networking on reconfigurable active data nodes (based on FPGA and SSD technologies)

Available Master Positions:
o
Cloud computing in wireless vehicular networks
oPrivacy in wireless and mobile networks, with applications to audio and video streaming, caching, targeted mobile advertisement, etc.
oMiddleware development for data intensive applications interfacing with reconfigurable active disks
